GENERAL ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Awards for each scholarship are as indicated. Awards will be sent directly to the school/institution to which the winning student enrolls. No awards will be paid directly to the individual winner.

Unrestricted scholarships - one application will be considered for all of the following scholarships:

  • Jack M Jensen Scholarship - $950: - awarded to one male and one female.
  • Grace Metcalf Scholarship - $1,075
  • James Gray Scholarship - $875
  • BPO DOES Drove #4 Scholarship - $1,350
  • Past Grand Exalted Ruler Vincent R Collura Scholarship - $1,600
  • Harlan "Lee" Erisman Scholarship - $825
  • Vi Berst/Sam Carter Scholarship - $850
  • Charles & Glenna Roper Scholarship - $950

The following are Restricted scholarships, meaning there are specific qualification requirements that must be satisfied. Each of these scholarships requires a separate application. Please be aware that each winner must submit official documentation of enrollment in the required area of study or at the required learning institution prior to payment of the award.

  • BPOE Lodge #80 Bowler's Scholarship - $1,325: Restriction: Applicant must have bowled competitively during league play during their senior year. Participation will be verified on the NHSBF website.
  • Rob Armagost Scholarship - $825: Restriction: Applicant must have participated in CROSS COUNTRY or TRACK for at least one year during their high school career. One of your letters of recommendation must confirm that you satisfy this requirement.
  • Graydon Rathbun Memorial Scholarship - $1,675: Restriction: Applicant must be bilingual and declare a major in a language other than their native tongue. One of your letters of recommendation must confirm that you satisfy the bilingual requirement.
  • James Rakers Memorial Scholarship for Science Education - $800: Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the field of science.
  • Richard "Dick" Blomgren Scholarship - $800: Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the Arts.
  • Agricultural Scholarships - $1,400: each to one male and one female. Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the field of agriculture.
  • PGER George B. Klein Memorial Scholarship - $1,400: Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the field of business, economics or information technology.
  • Samuel R. & Virginia E. Carter Scholarship - $1,100: Restriction: Applicant must attend Lincoln Northeast High School and must declare a major in the field of medicine.
  • Robert & Edith Miles Memorial Scholarship - $825: Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the media arts, including Journalism, Advertising, or allied field dealing with written or audio/visual media.
  • Dan Holmstedt Memorial Scholarship - $900: Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in the field of business.
  • Robert W. Sindlar Memorial Scholarship - $1,100: Applicant must have a background in and be planning to major in the performing arts.

Engineering Scholarships: Value as follows. Restriction: Applicant must declare a major in a field of engineering. One application will be considered for both scholarships.

  • Adam "Curly" & Leata Schwindt Scholarship - $1,100
  • Damon London Memorial Scholarship - $850

Nebraska Vocational/Trade/Community College scholarships - varies as follows. Applicant must enroll in a Nebraska Vocational/Trade School or Community College. One application will be considered for all of the following scholarships:

  • Vic Meisinger Scholarship - $1,025
  • Glenn Tyrrel Memorial Scholarship - $925
  • Maude Hollingshead Memorial Scholarship - $875
  • Georgia Kalmbrunn Scholarship - $900

The following eligibility requirements apply to these scholarships:

  • Open to all Lincoln and surrounding area high school seniors. For students attending out-of-town schools, parents must reside in Lincoln jurisdiction.
  • Complete the application in full - all questions must be answered. The student may send their transcript and letters of recommendation, each in a sealed envelope, along with their transcript. It is not necessary for these items to be mailed separately.
  • Be certain that the application is signed and dated as requested. The financial data page must be signed by the parent or guardian and included by the applicant before mailing or delivering to the Elks Lodge.
  • Check ONE box on the Scholarship Selection Form indicating for which scholarship the applicant is eligible and applying - this is the first page of your application. A student applying for the Unrestricted Scholarships will check the first box. A student applying for one, or several, Restricted Scholarships will submit one application for each Restricted Scholarship, checking the appropriate box on each application.
  • All applications will be judged on the basis of scholarship, leadership, need, and other information as requested.
  • ALL INFORMATION SUBMITTED IN THE APPLICATION IS SOLELY FOR THE USE OF LINCOLN LODGE #80 SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE.

All completed applications must be received at the Lincoln Elks Lodge #80 by 5:00 p.m. on January 31, 2018 to be eligible for consideration. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED - BE SURE TO CONSIDER MAILING TIME!

Winners will be notified by mail, and will also be posted on the Academic scholarship web page, by April 15, 2018. Winners are invited to be recognized at Youth Night ceremonies held at Southeast Community College Gym on the evening of Monday, May 07, 2018.

When the Lodge is notified of official enrollment in school, or August 2018, whichever is later. The payment will be made directly to the student's account at the school of their choice. All 2018 scholarships must be claimed by August 31, 2019 or are forfeited.
