Greetings fellow members and guests to another written ER "Segment of Wisdom" and thanks for being an Elk in 2025. The fraternal year is going very well.
We just held a Flag Day celebration ritual at the Veterans music festival at Antelope park, at the band sta0nd in front of members and Veter ans who helped celebrate Flag Day and the 250th year of the U.S. Army on June 14th. The weather was great; clear sky and slight breeze. We did a shortened rendition of the Flag ritual and were invited back for next year, which is an opportunity to help promote Flag Day and the Elks in Lincoln NE. Thanks to the Lodge officers and several volunteers in spending there time with us on the day where Elkdom came full circle. Elks promoted and helped make Flag Day a real event.
Elks National Convention in Kansas City will be starting on June 29 thru July 2, a time of learning more about the Elks’ National connec tion with the other local Lodges, training, promoting Elkdom, and hearing and voting on national resolutions. We will hear a speech from the New Grand Exalted Ruler elect, and his take on the upcoming year. July 4th is almost here, celebrating our founding of Independence and freedom from the King of England, since 1776. There will be lots of fireworks, picnicking, and barbecuing, spending time with friends and family, what a great day! July's dinner will be a picnic on July 19th at the Lodge, hamburgers/brats, corn on the cob, peach cobbler and the sponsor is our very own P.E.R. Steven Wirth. He and Deborah are celebrating 51 years of being together, Congratulations tor both of them!
Remember, only one lodge meeting in July, on the 16th, August on the 20th, both the second meeting of the month (the third Wednesday). In August, our dinner is on the 9th, and it will be provided by Cowhorn Pepper Co. & sponsored by members with August birth days. Barbeque and fixings on the menu. August also has our State Convention in Kearney, meeting the Grand Exalted Ruler on the 22nd thru 24th, a busy two months coming up. Summer is going fast, time for some well deserved vacations and taking time with friends and family. Remember the Lodge, come by and have a cold one, make some new friends. As always stay active, get involved, keep the EOG handy, and just have some FUN!

Elks showed heart, made 2024–25 a special year
Happy Independence Day, the Fourth of July. We live in the greatest country on the face of the earth. We, as proud Elks, want to uphold the virtues of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity in order to honor our great nation.
This is the perfect time for me to reflect on this amazing year of travel to meet all of you. We could never in our wildest dreams have thought that we would have this great honor. We want to thank each and every one of you for your love, hospitality, and support in fulfilling our year as Grand Exalted Ruler and First Lady.
It was easy to stay enthused by visiting each unique state convention. But there truly was a common bond in all of our visits: Heart.
Everyone has to serve others to show what the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks are truly about. You are the reason we are 800,000 Members strong. You are the reason that we have more than 1,800 successful Lodges. You are the reason that we are the greatest charitable organization in the United States of America. We are strong, mighty, and blessed to be citizens in our great country, and I want to express my gratitude for your service to others.
We would like to thank our family. We truly missed them during our travels, but they were always gracious and encouraging when we missed special events. We are so thankful for having such a loving family.
God bless our family, the Elks, and God bless the United States of America. I believe that my motto, "Elkdom’s Heart for America" will live on for many years to come. Remember we are 157 years young!

We all visit someplace new for the first time…and when the experience is primarily social and not to admire lovely scenery, it can be a bit scary – and the question you ask yourself is, will I fit in? With that in mind, we need to remember that one of our Elks precepts is Brotherly Love. When you see someone at the lodge, whether a fresh face or an old friend, extend a smile and the hand of friendship. Maybe even invite them to sit with you and chat for a while. You might make a new friend - but at the very least, you will be exemplifying Brotherly Love toward our Elks brothers and sisters. And that’s a very good thing – do unto others as you would have them do unto you!
As you will not have another Elk-O-Gram in your mailbox or inbox until late August, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe, happy, and fun summer!

With that in mind, it was decided to have members log on to the website to view the EOG.
In order to log on to the website, you will need to register a user id and password to obtain access.
To register, click on the words "Logon - Members only" in the upper right hand corner of a elks80.org web page. You will be taken to the logon page.
On logon page click on the "No password, please Register" words in the bottom right of the logon page. You wil be taken to the Registration form.
On the registration page, You will need to enter data in each field to create your password. This data must match the data that is on the CLMS (The Grand Elks Lodge database.) If you have problems with obtaining a password, please contact the webmaster (link at the bottom of every elks80 web page).
After you obtain your user credentials, return to the logon page and log on. You will then see a link to the newsletters on the menu on the left side of the screen.

To All Lodge #80 Membership
The Covid-19 pandemic has truly disrupted and changed our lives in unprecedented ways. Places we used to visit or frequent have changed as we have. We all need to adjust to the new norm.
If you look around Lincoln, you can see the economic impact that we are currently experiencing. For the first time in my life I was left with a very unsettling feeling going to the grocery store and discovering shelf's that had no product on them or please limit yourself to 1, signs.
Even our lodge is struggling to make ends meet. We were given an increase in our property valuation, we were closed for several months, we did not have meals or events scheduled. Revenue that used to flow was nonexistent.
We had to do something. Since we had very limited resources coming in, we had to find ways to reduce costs. One way was to ask the County Tax commissioners to grant us a tax exemption, I am very sure that you have heard the term Quid Pro Quo. (This for that) So in exchange for a considerable savings (to all of us) we had to give up some hours of operation. We did not have to lay off any current employees we simply did not replace, again saving us a large chunk of money. We changed supply companies, soon cable companies, pest control companies and other things just to name a few.
We are making these changes to stay within our financial constraints and to be good Stewards of your money.
